Electric Car FAQs

Do electric cars need oil changes?

No! Electric vehicles do not need oil changes because they are powered by an electric motor rather than an internal combustion engine.

Are electric cars cheaper to maintain?

Some maintenance is the same for electric car service and repairs, such as tire service intervals and recommendations. However, EVs have fewer fluids and internal parts than their gas engine counterparts, so electric vehicles are often cheaper to maintain than gas cars. You’ll never have to worry about replacing a timing belt, engine oil and more when you buy an EV in Northern Illinois. You also won’t ever have to spend money on gas or worry about rising fuel prices.

Does bad or cold weather impact electric cars?

While many believe that cold weather may affect EVs, an electric vehicle equipped with all-wheel drive will perform great in cold and inclement weather! And as long as your EV is charged, you will be able to travel to your destination regardless of weather conditions.

How long does it take to charge an electric car at home?

EV charging can vary by vehicle and outlet, but typically most electric cars can be fully charged overnight from home. You can expect a Level 2 at-home charger to take anywhere from 12-24 hours to fully your charge your vehicle. Meanwhile, a Level 3 charger provides an 80% charge in as quick as 30 minutes.

Where can I charge an electric car?

If you have an at-home EV charger installed, you can charge your vehicle from the comfort of your driveway. Or you can use one of the thousands of electric car charging stations across the country, all of which are equipped to charge your electric car.
